I am a 17 yr old from Michigan who is a current owner of quails.
I grew up in Mexico with my family (I am mixed) where my grandmother owned a ranch full of chickens, geese, ducks, sheep, and goats.
For a science project I purchased 35 quail eggs from a local farmer (Japanese Quail) and hatched them. The box was shaken and 1/3 had visible damage. Overall I hatched 8 lovely chicks including two blondes. The youngest, Macadamia, died 5 days after they where born from unknown complications; they had no hip socket, bald spot around their abdomen and where stuck in their shell for three days. In the end I had 4 females (Wallnut, Almond, Chesnut, and Pistachio) and 3 males (Cashew, Penut, and Hazlenut). Dear friends of mine looking for egg layers took my females and I kept my 3 males.
My situation has changed and I will soon be looking to rehome my males since I am no longer able to provide sufficient housing for them.
(Quail images will be uploaded once my phone charges and I can get them off there)
