Hello from Michigan

My son and I are raising our second clutch of chicks. We have seven. Two are Silver Laced Wyandottes, two are Buff Brahmas, and three are Rhode Island Reds. They are approximately 2-4 weeks old. We raised a brood of chickens last year but a neighbor's dog got them. I did not realize how common that was until I started looking around on here and discovered dogs are a primary predator of chickens. :(

I found the chickens to be very entertaining to watch as they wandered around the yard. It was a bonus that our last flock were such good layers.
Hello and welcome!!! Glad to meet you!!

Welcome to BYC! I'm so sorry you lost your last flock. :hugs I agree, a hot wire can be a wonderful deterrent against all sorts of predators, including dogs.
Hopefully your new chicks will bring you just as much entertainment, and just as many eggs!! :)

Welcome to BYC, and good luck in protecting your new flock. Hot wire is a great predator deterrent/educator.
Part of the enjoyment for me is watching them roam around the yard (live in the country). I am debating between not free ranging them or only letting half of them out daily so I do not lose all of them at once again.
