Well the weather here is not that pleasant and it’s been a chilly week. My hens loved the warmer weather last week and are prolly wondering what is happening.
This is my second year owning chickens and I love them! So far Buff Orphingtons are my favorite!
I have all hens and no roosters. Was thinking of getting a rooster to help protect my girls. We had a fox take one of my favorite buffs, Anna, last week and I was so sad. I knew it was a fox because the next day it tried to take my other buff, Elsa. But I seen it and scared it off. I’ve been changing my times being outside and letting my chickens out at different times, letting my dog walk through woods in the back, and trying to keep my hens closer to my home. My chickens are happy free rangers on one acre of property and I don’t have a run. So far no more casualties. This was my first incident. Also received 5 baby chicks in the mail last week to place under my broody hen. One didn’t make it (her name was Sweetie). The other 4 are happily outside in the coop with the mama hen. She is very protective and a good mama. I have 4 hens and 4 baby chicks, so 8 total. I’m going to try to stick to 8
. My hens are Mary Poppins (Silver Wyandotte and the Mama), Elsa (Buff Orphington), Tillie (Black Australorp), and Britney Spurs (Salmon Faverolle). Three of my baby chicks are a blue/black/splash Ameraucana and then I have one Silver Wyandotte (I think, she was a mystery chick). Their names are Jeanette, Henny Penny, Chickaletta, and Wendy Darling. Thanks for reading!
