Hello!!
I've been lurking unregistered for a few days, and yesterday got some chicks from the "Grab bag" of the TSC by me. I have no idea what they are, so my next post will probably be in the "What the heck do I have" forum
About me - I grew up in Mid-MI on a pretty large horse farm, and from the time I was born until I was about 8, we had chickens, ducks, gees, dogs, cats, and horses. I also did FFA, and did the broiler project, so I have a little bit of knowledge about chickens, but not a whole lot! I've probably forgotten anything I've ever learned.
I'm married to a wonderful guy who puts up with a lot of my crazy ideas, and we have a 2 year old little girl. We live on an acre in the middle of nowhere (our neighbors each have 80-160 acres, we just have the little tiny bit carved out LOL!), and I'm big in anything outdoor related - I have a large garden, both DH and I hunt and fish a lot, and we are raising our daughter to love being outside as much as we are. We also have a yellow lab, Haley, which is DD's babysitter and my buddy. I figured chickens would fit well into the equation!
So yup, that's the intro!
DH didn't know I was going to get chicks, but we had discussed a chicken coop, and we've spent a lot of time at a friend's house where they have free ranging ducks, chickens and turkeys. DD LOVES to go there and a follow the ducks around (until they get sick of her and chase her), and I figured it wouldn't bother DH too much
I told him last night when he was coming home from work to disregard the red glow in the window, he sounded panicky when I told him we had chickens now, but calmed down when I said it was only 12. He already has favorites, and loves to watch them. DD is entranced by them, and is getting very good at petting them nicely when I hold them.
Yay chickens!
Jen
