I'm from Middle Georgia. I have 11 chickens and 3 ducks about 6 weeks old. I have just built a coop and run and I am looking forward to warmer dryer weather so I can turn them out into the run. This is my first chicks in 50 or so years but I raised chickens growing up. I have spent my adult life on larger birds, airplanes. I came up with my coop after looking at others on this site. It is 4X8 with an 8X12 ft run.My family is excited about the new chicks especially my 7 year old granddaughter who finally talked me into this. She picked out the birds. That's why they are so diverse. She wanted some of everything available and of course grand father let her. I'm looking forward to retirement one of these days and maybe expanding the poultry operation.

! Pleased you joined us! A 50 year gap in chickens! Wow! Not sure how much has changed...probably a lot more breeds nowadays. Good luck to you and have fun!

Hi and welcome! I'm in Tyrone, GA. We seem to have a little bit in common; This is also my first time raising chickens since I was a child and my grandchildren were my motivation. Mine are a little younger than yours, 2 1/2 and 4 months. The two yr old is in love with chickens and Granddad let her pick out her chicks too. We have one that now follows us around the yard and sits on my shoulder - she thinks it's the best thing ever!

Again, welcome to the forum. Be sure to check ou the "Yo Georgians" thread. Lots of locals and good info.

I actually raised Rhode Island Reds as a 4H Club project. I won a blue ribbon with them. I knew people who had what I think were Dominiques. They were generally called Domineckers. There are some more breeds but a lot of the old breeds still around.

I have a friend from Perry between Lawrence and Topeka. I spent quite a bit of time there when I was stationed in Little Rock Arkansas.
