I am new to raising chickens, although this has been of interest to me almost my whole life. We ordered 12 one-day-old chicks, recieved 14, and lost one SLW three weeks later. We were told not to expect all to live, but it was devastating. We had a lovely (cute, insulated, heated, with skylights) home built for our girls: 3 Gold Stars, 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes, 4 Black Australorps, and 3 Buff Orpingtons. While they waited for their new digs, we raised them indoors and in the garage. They are pets to us, there will be no eating these chickens! At four months, the Gold Stars began laying and we anticipate the others to follow soon. We are madly in love with our girls! I am thrilled to have found this community. Thanks!
