Hello everyone I am an urban gardener from the Twin Cities who dreams of adding chickens to our family [don't tell the hubby....yet]. My partner in chicken related schemes is my 10 y.o. son whose 3rd grade teacher exposed him to chickens by bringing a couple hens to the class to help kids with their reading and concentration. It's been a couple years since we've been around live chickens but my very successful reader and I are compelled to make this year "The Year of the Chicken!" at our house. I welcome any and all advice on how to get started including: Coop Design on a budget, Pets and Chickens, as well as laying hens suited for cold climates. I'm sure I'll think of more as we get started on this journey so thank you in advance.

Welcome to BYC. Keep your son interested. If possible, get him involved in 4-H. We need more young fanciers.

Hi! I am new here too. Good luck with your chicken plans! I moved to Homer, AK from Minnetonka and am starting to work on my chicken plan too.
