Hi! I'm from the NW suburbs of Minneapolis. We started having chickens last March and it's great! Feel free to PM me. We have 3 Gold Comets, 2 GL Wyandottes, 2 Australorps, 1 buff Orphington, 1 Blue Cochin, 2 Easter Eggers, 2 guinea fowl and they are all doing great. The buff Orphington is a real sweetheart. She likes to sit on our laps and be petted. The Gold Comets are very sweet and friendly too.

This gives me a point of reference for breeds in our locale. My son has been asking me daily if we've gotten any updates on the boards here and when we can order chicks. Did you start your brood(s) from babies or did you rescue/purchase hens? Besides craigslist I haven't investigated where to get chickens. I'm still stuck on permits and a coop.

Got our first chicks from Tractor Supply during their Chick Days last March. Six Golden Comet chicks. Great price, very healthy chicks. They have Chick Days for a few weeks every year around March. They have different breeds. The rest I got from Anoka Ramsey Farm & Garden on hwy 10. There's also Egg Plant Supply in St. Paul. I haven't been there yet but I want to check it out this year. Beware: chickens are addictive! : )
