I just started out with a new flock of white Silkies. I have had chickens most of my life but you are never too old to learn. It's going to be an interesting winter raising this flock. Winter up here in the north is challenging for both people and animals. I also have a trio of Roens.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I've never had White Silkies, but I used to have some Black Silkies and they were such sweet, friendly, adorable, little birds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

You should go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum to locate and post on your state thread. That's the best place to find out how locals prepare their coop for harsh weather, who has what breeds for sale, where the best prices on feed are., etc etc.

You may also want to check out "Silkie thread," just put that in the search box and it will pop up. This is the largest of the silkie threads (there are several) people there can tell you all you need to know about silkies.

Welcome to the flock. Silkies are generally docile, and children's favorite, they also can be wonderful broodies that hatch out chicks. Many people buy them just for that reason and then swap out their eggs, for fertile eggs of other breeds.

Pictures would be nice, hint, hint.

Enjoy this wonderful journey you are on and welcome to our flock!

Thanks everyone. I'm getting a hip replaced in Oct. So this will be a good place to get my "chickie fix".

Here is my little flock of Silkies. I also have a few Seabright and a trio of Roens.
