Hello, everyone! I’ve been dropping in here for a while now and getting lots of helpful information from everyone. I thought it was time to finally post an introduction. Better late than never, right? 😁

I am still new to chickens. My dad used to have them, and I always enjoyed watching their antics when I’d go visit. We now live on his old property and decided last winter to utilize his coop with our own flock. After a lot of research and planning, I ordered 8 chicks in December to be shipped in June. We had vacations and such planned and wanted to make sure we had several weeks in a row with no trips etc planned so we’d be here for our babies. Little did we know all our plans would get cancelled anyway. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I keep saying “we,” but initially other than agreeing to have them, Hubby didn’t have much of an opinion on the coming chicks. (He has since fallen in love with “the girls” and already wants more! 😂) Anyway, I had a hard time narrowing down what to get and ended up choosing two of each of four breeds “just in case” so we started our with 8 (nine if you count our surprise freebie who sadly didn’t make it past week one 😢) chickens...probably more than two people need, but that’s where we are in any case. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Our girls: 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes named Hoot & Annie (get it? 😂), 2 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes named Polly & Esther, 2 Buff Orpingtons named Ginger & Nutmeg, and 2 Black Australorps named Em’ly & Peggotty (Hubby’s reading David Copperfield. LOL) Our little freebie was a Buttercup. She was adorable, but I think the others might have crushed her while I was at work one day when they were a week old. That’s when I realized how attached I already was to those chicks! Lots of tears were shed over that little baby! 😭

Our girls will be 12 weeks old tomorrow. From the beginning, I have spent time with the every day. Even now with them in their coop/run, I go out daily and take a seat to hang out with them. Hubby comes out most days too. They hop up in our laps as soon as we sit down. 🥰 They are such funny creatures. We have really enjoyed just watching them!

A little about us...we have been married 23 years. We don’t have children but love animals and currently have 4 cats (plus the neighbor’s who thinks he lives here too) and we inherited my dad’s border collie mix when he passed away. We had two boxers up until a few years ago and still miss them. We love the outdoors and enjoy camping and kayaking. I also enjoy photography and scrapbooking.

Ok that’s probably enough. If you read all of that, thanks! I’ll try to share some pics of the girls. 😁
