(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I've been keeping chickens for 4 months. First batch of pullets are in the coop. Cockrels in my freezer.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

1 cockrel, 5 pullets, and 26, 1.5 week old, chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Coop: Salmon Favorelles and California White. Previously included Dominique.
Brooder: A lot...I'll be posting about that soon.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Google search. I'd been a lurker on the site for 6 months.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Cutting Garden, Antiques/Estate Sales, Kayaking, Fishing, Hunting, Cooking, etc... I like to keep busy!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I quit my corporate job to become a backyard homesteader. I'm supported by my wonderful husband who is a 2nd generation carpenter and small business owner. We have two fun, outdoorsy, kids.

G’Day from down under Blooms&Brood :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes for the New Year!

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

I can't believe I forgot to mention my two rescue dogs. A pure breed 4 year old black lab and my lovely 9m old lab mixed mutt. She likes car rides and chicken wrangling.

Hello and welcome to BYC

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

:welcome:celebrate

Glad you're here !

If you haven't yet, please make your poultry a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise.
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!

One last thing, please get your chickens some Vaseline or bag balm to stave off frostbite before they get it! Baby, it's cold outside! :D
