(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My family had chickens when I was growing up, and I had 2 pet chickens as a child.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None at present. Attempting to hatch shipped bantam Cochin eggs.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I plan to have bantam Cochins and bantam Ameraucanas.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Not sure yet! I hope just developing a relationship. I am a dog trainer, so plan to do some clicker training with them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Train and show Shelties in agility, rally and herding. Reading and learning about new things. I foster dogs periodically for a local Sheltie Rescue and provide behavior consultations when needed. Certified Training Partner with KPA and Certified Professional Dog Trainer.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Husband, 16 yo daughter, 4 Shelties, miniature American Eskimo and mixed breed. One last barn cat left; we had 4 horses but those passed over the years. So now I have time for chickens. We live in the country on 15 acres. Work as a director of technical project management for an advertising agency.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I was googling advice on hatching shipped eggs and it appeared that there were some experts here that might be able to help!
