I have learned so much from reading BYC that I thought I'd finally join! My name is Barb, married 23 years to Tim, we have a 19 YO daughter and a 16 YO son. We live on 3 acres in east central Missouri, having moved from "the city" 7 years ago. The kids got involved in 4H, and in 2010 said they wanted to do poultry. We knew nothing about it, being transplanted "city slickers" who had never had animals other than dogs and cats. Anyway, we jumped in and they started with market birds and I decided to get some layers also. Long and short of it, we only have two hens at present, a barred Plymouth and a RIR. I plan to get more, so DS and I are repurposing an old playhouse that DH started building for them, but never finished, into a larger coop. (I plan to post pics of that also in the coop forum and get all your expert feedback!
.) We are a homeschooling family, and my 87 YO father has been living with us since March. We also have two dogs (Aussie which my daughter trains and shows in AKC and ASCA, and GSD mix which my son shows in 4H) and two very spoiled cats. Want a horse but daughter and I volunteer with therapeutic horsemanship instead.
