Hello,

Just wanted to say Im new to the site and raising chickens. Just built a homemade incubator and hatched 12 out of 13 eggs. We now have 32 eggs in the incubator. 3 of the eggs are turkey eggs. We have been candling the eggs everyday and the are doing great. Just wanted to say hi and any helpful info would be great... THANKS!!!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan - In my experience, handling the eggs frequently increases the chances of accidents such as dropped eggs (usually onto other eggs breaking them all) and other eggy accidents. Although it is fascinating, eggs probably are safer being handled less. Candling at 10 and 18 days is usually enough to check developement. You may enjoy joining or following one of the hatching threads under Incubating and Hatching Eggs, the New Year hatch is going on right now and there are lots of experienced hatchers on that thread.

(nothing makes one feel more guilty than breaking an incubating egg!)

When did you set the turkey eggs? They should go into lockdown on day 27/28 and the chicken eggs day 18... Good luck with your hatch!
