Hello from MN! We are new to chickens, my husband is just finishing our coop so I am getting excited about purchasing our first chickens. We are planning on getting 12 layers and 13 meat birds, I am quickly learning about different breeds and which ones will perform the best, so if anyone has a recommendation please feel free to share. I have heard not to purchase chickens from the local feed store so I am looking at ordering from a hatchery. I have a 8 & 9 year old so it will be a family affair, and they do know these are not pets and will be butchered or used for their intended purpose. I am thankful for this forum and I hope to learn lots and make some friends along the way.

I happen to love Turken/Naked Neck hens for layers myself. They are a great dual purpose bird. They lay very well, have a very good feed to egg ratio. Dont mind confinement.
I just love mine.
