Glad to have you here!

Welcome to the board from over the mountain in Sheridan. Don't give up on your eggs, with our dry conditions humidity was probably not too high. In fact it is hard to keep it up sometimes.

Thanks for the welcomes, and wow, you are close as the crow flies, but over 100 miles as my truck drives.

It always kills me that I have to drive West quite a ways to go South. These mountain ranges are great to look at and can add on a lot of miles when you need to go to the other side of them.

Nice to meet everyone.

Next question, should I put one of those stoppers back in since it is kind of dry as far as humidity here.

All this learning stuff is great. Keeps my mind active!

I have more questions, but I will put them in the incubating forum.

Hi! I'm Jen in Livingston, Montana--originally New Orleans till I got blown up here by You-know-what. I'm about an hour and a half from you.

What kinds of chickens are you raising? what kind of incubator are you using?

I'm going to start an informal friend-to-friend hatching operation here...lots of people are interested in having chickens in their yards and don't want to have to go the big-order/hatchery route. I would love to know what you're breeding--and there's some interest under "Chickenstock Montana" of getting some people from here together...check out the post...

Also, i think the air is SO dry here that the guy who lent me his Little Giant (before I got my super duper Brinsea a few days ago) told me they never open those holes (now covered w/ duct tape; plugs long gone).

Best,

Jen

Hmm, I think I will plug one hole back up.

But, wouldn't there be enough humidity in there as long as there was water in the incubator?

What level of humidity do I want in the incubator?

Thanks.

Will check out Chickenstock Montana.

I have Foghorn Leghorn chickens.

I tried buying chicks from Murdocks last year, but I live 60 miles away, and every time I would drive in to buy some, they would be sold out. The sales person said they were literally all sold within a day of them getting them.

People are starting to raise their own gardens, poultry and so on, and this year, I decided to just try increasing my own herd (flock), and either keep them or sell them, whatever works. I sell my eggs to the locals around here. I only have 4 hens & 1 rooster right now, but hope to increase that soon in about 10 days -)

I love the crested ducks. I will be trying my hand at incubating some duck eggs next, and I have a crested male, so maybe I will get some crested babies.

If not, that is okay too. Ducks are my therapy. They make me laugh with their "talking" antics that they do.
