Hello I am from a little mountain community in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. I also am new to the chicken hobby. I have only had chickens for about 1 month. I have one Rooster and 12 hens. My husband and I have worked on our chicken house all day. We are almost finished with the one for our big chickens and will start on one Monday for the small chickens. We love to turn them out in the back yard as set out there together and watch them...........they are a very good stress releaser. Will talk more later have to go out and see about all our babies and make sure they are back in where it is safe for the night.
Hello from ladyhawkone sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I have been canning and that keeps me very busy.........Hope you are well and God has blessed you........you are right they are very good for stress.......I love to let mine out in the yard and I get so relaxed just watching them......and sometimes the make me laugh (something I rarely do)..........Hope you have a great day......
Things are going well. Ben busy with a slight work vacation and then home to return to the animals. Our horse decided he wanted to slightly remodel the chicken run!
Hope the horse didn't make to much of a mess for you too clean up.......my grand-daughters have horses and one of them had a colt 2 years ago.......we will have to start saddle breaking him very soon.......He was born on the second day of July and the girls named him Firecracker.....believe me the name suits him to a tee.
My little runt, Dottie a white crested Black Polish was dead when I went outside this morning... Sad. Both of the white crested chicks I got didn't make it... Bummer. Now down to 17 including my two roosters...
Well I suppose I should update whoever looks at this post! Two weeks ago we returned from my parents house 4 missing chickens. Both my golden polishes, 1 anacona, and a family favorite EE. Sad it was the silver fox/hawk looking one! My feeder busted up and not a hole in the fence. My dad is convince it was a raccoon! Sad day.
Last weekend we acquired 4 buckeyes from a local breeder. They are doing well and about the same age as my girls... The partridge Cochin is either going to become CHicken dinner or hit the road to another chicken lover/eater!
