Hi everyone! I finally remembered to post an intro, so here goes:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, I got my first chickens a little over 2 weeks ago. My ducks, however, I've had since last July.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
3 cute little chicks and 3 sassy ducks (1 drake, 2 hens).
(3) What breeds do you have?
All the ducks are Anconas and my chickens consist of a Buff Orpington, Barred Plymouth Rock, and (my most special) a Swedish Flower.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love just about all of it! Watching them forage in the cool early morning, having the little guys following me around the garden looking for food, the endless laughs they bring from their crazy antics. Oh, and the eggs are pretty great too
. My girls are awesome layers. As soon as they turned 5 months, they have been egg-laying machines. Mind you, their first egg was laid in the middle of harsh December and every morning since then (even below freezing) I'm met with at least two eggs. There was even a period where I was finding 3-4!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I absolutely love photography, I could spend hours on end taking pictures of anything (my cats think that they deserve the most camera time though
). I mostly use film cameras since developing them is so rewarding. Other than that, baking, painting, horses, gardening, running, and reading are my favorite pastimes. Learning other languages is also something I enjoy.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My other pets include 3 cats and 5 dogs. All of my animals sort of came to me whether it was a foster "failure" (hey, at least I found them a home
) or a stray needing a safe place to call home. I think of them as spontaneous family expansions lol!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
For the past few years, I've been a lurker but when I got my first flock members, I realized how fun it would be to officially join such a fun and helpful community.
