Hi folks, been hanging around here and decided to register so I could put up pictures of the first coop we are building. I had chickens when I was 11 years old, now I am forty!
Have two kids, 8 and 10, who are very excited about the whole chicken thing. They were helping me today with nest boxes and wall framing. My wife isn't super sure about the idea but isn't against it either. I told her the kids are at a great age to remember this before they get into cars and boys!
We live out in the country in a small development with about 7 houses around on 2 acres. We are going to try 25 chicks from either McMurray or Ideal. Thinking about Red Star sex link, RIR, Marans, Buff Orphingtons and a couple others. Not sure about a Roo though. Would like to have one if I could determine what breed would be best for the kids and the neighbors. I had a RIR Roo and boy was he mean!
I'll post pictures in the next few days and who knows, may even enter the Coop contest.
