I bet it will not take you long before you get yourself a hen.

I should have known a BYCer would know more about getting chickens than I do.

Trying to find some retirement property has just been too disappointing so we've put it on hold which saddened me even more. I refused to give up though so I started thinking about leasing some property that was close by. While I was thinking about where I could go to ask someone about leasing a part of their property, I realized our neighbor whose property backs up to ours doesn't live in our subdivision! Once we get the rest of our own property fenced in, I'm going to approach them and ask them if I can lease and fence in a small part of their 22 acres. Wish me luck! It's still going to be months before I can actually get some chickens but that's better than waiting years!

Welcome, from Shelby, NC! We were selling land fairly recently, but most of it is sold now, all that's left is a large 38 acre plot (1/3 woods, 2/3 field), may be a bit much for retirement. Good luck with the leasing, I hope it works out! Chickens are worth the wait.
