I've been obsessively reading through BYC for the last voile of weeks and decided to register.
My husband and I just bought our first coop and we're planning to add chicks to our family very soon! Right now I'm really trying to decide WHAT breed to get. We live in the 'burbs. Our backyard isn't very big, so 3 chickens is our max. We're planning to let them free range for most of the day. We have a 6 foot privacy fence and I don't think our neighbors would be pleased if a chicken flew over it and into their yard. We have two young children, so we want a breed (or breeds) that are very friendly and docile. The Florida heat is also a consideration.
Because of our smaller yard and coop, it sounds like bantams may be a good choice for us, but the thought of large eggs for breakfast is tempting too! What's a girl to do? Any advice?
