hello from NE Mississippi....

Im in ne miss and lately ive become really interested in becoming more self reliant....

i'm an organic farmer (veggies, fruits, etc) and have recently become interested in getting a few chickens. im wanting the chickens for the eggs, meat, and for their poop/fertilizer.

i'm wanting to start off with a rooster and maybe 6-8 hens. i have been doing research and i'm leaning toward getting some: buff, barred, partridge rocks and speckled sussex.

would those four types be good starter birds?

any advice/comments will be greatly appreciated.

Everyone has their favorites for different reasons. I enjoy speckled sussex for their friendly, calm personalities. For egg production I prefer delawares, welsummers, and EE's. The henderson chicken chart is a great place to research breeds
