Hello From NE Ohio

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We had our first flock of chickens in 2012 I believe, then we didn't get chickens again until 2019 and we have had them ever since!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now, we have 40 Laying hens, 1 Roo, 20 chicks in the brooder, and eggs just starting to hatch in the incubator. It's our first time using the incubator and this morning our first chick hatched!!!


(3) What breeds do you have?
A whole bunch!! Plymouth Barred Rock, Gold & Silver Laced Wyandottes, RIR, BCM, Black Australorp, EE, Prairie Blue Bells, Starlight Green Eggers, Buff Orpington, I may be missing a few, lol!


(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Watching all the different personalities of all the different chickens & I absolutely love washing our eggs and arranging by colors to take to the farm store to sell.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Crafts, writing letters, cooking, baking, canning.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We are a family of 6 My hubby and I have been married almost 18 years and have 4 kids; two teenagers & two elementary kiddos. We homeschool the teenagers. We own Happy Roots Homestead in NE Ohio on 5 acres.. My hubby is a Disabled Veteran and he writes for The Farm and Dairy Newspaper weekly. His column is called "Comfortably Dumb" by Eric Keller. We have a Newfoundland and two indoor Kitties. We also have 2 cows, and 8 Sheep. We raise pigs for pork.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about it
I found this group through googling a question about hatching chicks, and this group popped up.
Welcome. You are smart with your approach, I homeschooled high school as well.
