Just introducing myself as required.

I've had many chickens for most of my life. Farm raised girl.

Starting again. Not that my life is more conducive to it, but because of coming food supply issues. So I'm at it again.

Currently have 14 new chicks in the fancy-shmancy brooder I bought so I wouldn't have a tub of fluff in my already-cramped living room.

I have 4 Rhode Island Red pullets from Tractor Supply, and 9 Pearl White Leghorns from M Mc. Hopefully 2 are cockerels. Also have the surprise chick they included, which is a mystery to me.

Glad to be here.

Any guesses?

Also, in the photos above you can see part of the DIY brooder plate I'm trying instead of the heat bulb. So far, so good. 2 reptile heat mats, stuck to the cookie sheet and baling wire in case the glue let's go, then hanging from the top with adjustable wire as they grow.

Nights have been in the 40s, days about 72, and they are outside on my porch. It's working well.
