Hello, my name is Amanda and I hail from Southeastern Nebraska. I have been lurking on BYC forums for a few years and have now finally decided to bite the bullet and join up!!
A little about me: I will be 28 yrs old next month. I currently live in the city, but I grew up on a farm. I've had chickens for most of my life (my city allows them...in certain quantities) and don't plan on stopping anytime soon!
I am a three-time Army Vet, having served in Kuwait/Iraq all three times, each for a year or more. I am currently no longer in the military; I served the eight years of my contract and didn't re-enlist.
Not only do I enjoy chickens, but I also enjoy other feathered creatures. I am currently owned by a cockatiel, a Linnie, a canary, and a Mealy Amazon parrot. I am an avid wild bird watcher and feed them in my backyard. I work at a locally owned business that caters to birdwatchers, selling feed, feeders, bird baths, houses, etc. I am also a licensed falconer in my state. I currently do not have a hawk, but will be getting one later this year.
I have a wonderful daughter of almost 8 months, and although she was unplanned (Oops!), I do not regret anything. She is my guiding light, and keeps me going when I feel like quitting. I am happily married to her father. On a side note, my Amazon parrot and my daughter were born on the same day! He's a DNA'd male. I love to ride motorcycles ( I have a sport bike), and am looking to join up with a club...don't worry, it's not an outlaw club! Lol!
On to chickens: I have a small flock of four bantams right now. All were purchased as chicks from Orchlen's (sp?) Farm store. I have a Millie Fleur booted bantam and a Millie Fleur Bearded d' Uccle which are almost four years of age; a Self-blue Rosecomb and a Belgian d' Anvers that I raised last season. All are hens. Once it starts to warm up, I will be rebuilding their coop and run (the one they're in now is a train-wreck lol) and I plan on starting up a project to hatch and raise some Nankin bantams.
If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask. I promise to follow the rules and be respectful. Thanks and hello again!
NOTE: I will be adding a personal avatar and signature asap!
