Hello, I'm sooo happy this forum exists. So far, it helped me solve successfully every issue I encountered on my chicken path! Thank you all so much for sharing such a wealth of information.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've been wanting chickens for years, but never had the time to create the setup and raise the chicks. When we closed down for the coronavirus I saw my opportunity...
I mostly draw from my experience seeing my grandma's chickens during my childhood. But this is the first time I have my own flock.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
6 - they are only 10 weeks old now.
(3) What breeds do you have?
All mixed - looks like they have considerable percentage of ameraucana, some rhode island reds, comet(?), and one (turned out to be a boy) is barred rock.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Now it's observing them and interacting with them. Before I got them, I mostly wanted to complete the garden-table-compost cycle. They are great providers of compost, and consumers of edible scraps. Can't wait till they start laying. Good quality eggs is an important aspect of raising them - and probably the only one for the rest of the family
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, bird watching (yes, I know, chickens are also birds , hiking, sauna, swimming, ...
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Raising two teenage sons and a 3 year old chihuahua pup with my BF. Establishing a forest garden with him.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
BYC came up in almost every search when I was looking on line for answers to my never-ending chicken questions. I soon realized how useful the advice there was. So I subscribed. It was about 2 months ago, mid of March.
