I've been lurking a few days soaking up as much knowledge about raising chickens as I could and decided it was time to officially join. I live in Southern NH on about 1.7 acres. We just became the proud owners of a baby chick (had two for a few hours but lost the smaller one) and are hoping to eventually have four or so hens. So here's to hoping our baby isn't a rooster!

We've got a nice section fenced off already for the dogs and the potbellied pig, and there's a nice outbuilding that will easily convert to a coop big enough for at least four chickens. We'll be raising them for eggs and as pets. I hope to post pictures of our one baby chick soon.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of dumb questions over the next few weeks, but thanks so far for all the great advice I've seen in the various topics and thanks in advance for any answers you have for me as they come up!

Only one rat? I find them addictive! I am especially fond of dumbos and hairless, but I love all kinds.
