My name is Susan and I'm currently raising guinea fowl. I'm interested in raising some chickens as well. I'm actually in a rural setting, not urban. My only problem is my dogs. I have a fox terrier who has killed several guineas. Two of my other dogs have learned this bad habit from her. They like to chase the guineas and pull feathers out of them. My only solution now is to kennel the dogs during the day when the guineas are out and then let the dogs out when the guineas are in their coops for the evening. I guess I could do the same thing with chickens. I have two coops, but two different groups of guineas have their own coop. I'm not sure how the guineas and chickens will get along.

Any ideas as to what to do about the dogs and about guineas and chickens being together. Getting rid of my dogs is not an option.

from Indiana. I do know that some folks have guinea and chickens mixed together in the same coop. As for the dogs...do what you're doing, or build a run (even if it's not covered) for your birds.

I would try letting one dog at a time out with the chickens when you can be there to stop the dog from chasing. my experience is that with enough scolding, maybe even a swat or two, and the dog will learn. once the first dog learns, the others should be easier to teach. they need to know what to do to please you.
