Hello! I have been using this website for the past two month or so and finally decided to join! In mid July I got 3 Turkens (well, we got over 20, I kept 3 and the rest went to my dad) and absolutely love them!! It was actually this site that helped me choose them! I think they are gorgeous birds, but I seem to be one of the few with that opinion every time I show somebody my birds... hahaha! I live in Albuquerque, NM, was raised both in the city (Santa Fe) and in the country (Anton Chico) so it's nice to have a little bit of the country life in the city. I got 4 more new ones this past weekend, about 3 weeks old, I don't know the breeds. I think 3 of them are bantam Ameraucanas, the last one could be anything (I am still getting used to having birds with feathers on their necks, strange, I know, haha). I don't have any really good pictures of them yet, or else I would post them. Been so busy making sure that everybody is getting along, getting them some fresh fruit and veggies in their coop (outside of filling the feeder all the time) and constantly cleaning their water; on top of the new puppy I got a couple of weeks ago (I have 3 dogs and a cat lol). I am so glad to have found this site and I have learned so much! I am even teaching others about the joys of chickens (we got my sister and her boyfriend to take a few, too!).

Below are my Turkens a few weeks ago, in the back are Roxy (left) and Frenchie (right) and in the front is Cookie. I named them after ice cream flavors (Rocky road, French vanilla and Cookie dough haha).

Have you ever seen Showgirls? They are a variety of silkie, originating from silkie x turken cross. They too are either naked neck or bow ti. Very nice birds in all of the silkie colors and tend to be very broody also. Put showgirls in the search box. Some folks who aren't thrilled with turkeys (mainly their size) really like the Showgirls, with the silkie black skin , feathered legs, etc.

PS Haagen Dazs Rocky Road is my absolute favorite ice cream. You can probably tell by my avatar.
 
I have seen the Showgirls, they definitely live up to their name! I think I will look into them if I expand my flock, they look like really beautiful birds :-) I think I will read up on them some more, put them on my wishlist haha!
