Hi everyone!
I am new to chickens and just bought my first flock this spring. I have two golden comets, two black australorps, two ameraucanas and a buff orpington. They are all to young to start laying but by this fall they will be laying.
Recently I have been really interested on creating a flock that will lay colorful eggs, so from now on that's what I am planning on learning about and even breeding chickens which I don't know how to do either. I am a complete newbie so any pointers would be great also. Even if it's something you think I already know.

Welcome to BYC from middle Tennessee:frow There are plenty of breeders out here to provide tips, there's even a chicken genetic calculator somewhere out here that can help you with color traits. I used it several months ago but can't remember where i found it.

Oh good, so you can research what type of roo would be best to be able to go forward with your project. Please keep us posted. I am really interested in what comes about and I realize this will take a lot of time. Hope you take and post lots of pictures. Welcome again and good luck

Their are several colored egg laying chickens, Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, Marans (that lay dark brown eggs) and breeds that lay blue. It's would save you years of trying to get those colors, if you just got the birds above instead
