Hi all! I'm new to chicken keeping, but it's always been a dream of mine. I'm at a point now where my husband and I have bought our first property and are finally able to begin building our homestead. In July we got 8 chicks, 2 straight run Jersey Giants, 2 straight run Ameraucanas and 4 Olive Egger pullets. We hoped one of the jerseys would be a rooster (as a nice big protector for our girls) and we got super lucky with a single giant roo! They're about 16 weeks and doing great. We plan to add more animals in the future but for now we're learning all we can.
My favorite thing to do is sit with the chickens when I get home from work. I could watch them for hours, and I love coming up with enrichment for them.
We've got two dogs, a Great Pyr x Golden Retriever mix and a Border Collie mix. Plus two cats and a leopard gecko!
Aside from being an aspiring farmer, I enjoy nature photography, watercolor painting, video and board games and much more.
I'm glad to be here and part of the community!
