Hi,
Finally got my husband to say yes to chickens. I hope to get started this coming Spring so I will be reading on this forum often.
We do have a problem with wild animals so that was the main reason for not getting them sooner. The neighbor has had a bear ripe open her coop the last two Springs. I didn't know till then that a bear will do that.
My cousin also has chickens and they follow her around and would go into the house if she would let them. They are going to be 7 years and are still laying. Haven't read anything thing yet but I'd actually thought that they would be too old to lay at that age.
We will be building a coop and hope to not have to make it a Ft Knox to keep unwanted animals out.

Looking forward to this new venture. I know that the grandkids will love it too.

Hey neighbor,

If your neighbor has bear problems then the cheapest way around that might be electric wire. As for normal predator problems it's as simple as having a floor, good wire vent covers and a coop door that isn't easy opened by racoons.
