Just started raising barred rocks last year when got 10 from TSC. 7 turned out to be roos, 3 hens but down to 2 now since one died shortly after starting laying :/ We did get a double yolk egg and think it may have been from her and too large an egg for a young hen to lay led to her death.

Have hatched out some of their eggs and now have six 4 week old chicks and a second batch of 4 not even a week old yet(too many duds in the dozen each time)

Just got 19 ameraucana today and looking forward to finding out how many pullets to cockerels in the bunch.

2 eggs in each batch never showed any signs of anything growing in them. In both batches had about 3 eggs that even though jiggled after lockdown failed to hatch for some unknown reason. I'm guessing just not strong enough to punch out their first hole. Wish there was a way to know when to help in those cases. Only time I help out is if they got their first hole opened and having trouble still after 30 hours and that has worked out fine in both cases. First batch I did destroy one growing egg after 2nd candle just so had an idea of what I was supposed to be seeing thru the brown egg shell as pictures weren't helpful that I found online.
