My husband and I live on 54 acres with two horses, six dogs and four cats. We love animals, and are going to be chicken parents in a couple of days. I know we're crazy as we've been preparing for a few months now. We built our chicken house (8x8x8) and have attached it to a seven foot tall fenced garden, 24x40. We had thought about getting chickens, and then a friend of a friend approached us about taking his flock as he has been trying hard to rehome them. He has ten "fancy" hens and three roosters. They are currently housed in an 8x10 fenced coop that includes their chicken house. Our goal is to keep our new flock safe in their chicken house each night and allow them into their fenced garden during the day. Perhaps in the spring we will let them free range outside their fenced garden during the day. I've read quite a bit of posts here before joining. Thank you all for the wonderful tips. I want to be the best chicken mama ever.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Congratulations on the instant flock! You did things in the correct order. Coop first THEN chickens! Lots of the rest of us just can't wait. I'm guilty of that! I got my coop built just in the knick of time before the little raptors outgrew their brooder.
