I would definitely consider myself a rookie when it comes to raising chickens. A couple years ago I helped my dad build a coop for his house and for the time being lived the chicken life vicariously through him. Recently I've gotten to a point where I have the money and space to have my own so I began reading up and making plans.
I am graduate student at North Carolina State University. In doing online research I found the website for the Little Birdie Hatchery in Wake Forest, NC. I just bought three chicks from them (Rhode Islands) and am headed back there Wednesday for three Ameraucana chicks. Mike from LBH has been amazing to do business with. He is a great guy and I would recommend him and his family's business to anyone. Their website is littlebirdiehatchery.com
My coop is about 50% done, waiting for some rain to pass through so I can finish everything up. Though I know it isn't too time sensitive seeing as my chicks are just 1 week old.
I hope to post pictures of the chicks/coop soon. Glad to be a part of backyardchickens.com. I've been a lurker for months and love seeing all the different coops ideas and advice posted on the site.
Thanks,
Cory
