I am brand new to the concept of backyard chickens. My family is "all in" on the idea of getting started with backyard chickens. Unfortunately, our town has a very restrictive law on chicken ownership, so it is currently not legal for us to own chickens.

I've had people tell me I really should just put up a small coop and have "illegal" chickens. I've been assured there are others in the area that have done that, and that that is the easiest way to go. I'm really more interested in getting the law changed to allow families to own a few chickens, with only very limited and reasonable restrictions.

All that to say... I'd love to learn from y'alls expertise about raising chickens - and particularly about information that might help with going to the council to get movement on a change to the ordinances.

Did you look at the Local Chicken Laws & Ordinances (and how to change them) section? Good luck!

hi from Louisiana do you live in the city, not sure if y'all have the law we have in Louisiana but we have a right to farm act and with that being said chickens are considered a farm animal and are breed for food and eggs so we can actually have them all over city or country.. might check into it because most public works people have no clue of this law in our area so we have to show them constantly.. if something happens and yall dont have laws and you start a pettition to get this going post on here and facebook and i will do what i can to help get this passed..

Times X2 on the LORE section. It's been used many times to help change laws in one's city.
