Hey everyone!
My name is Starla, Ive been married 21 yrs. I have a 17 yr daughter and a 15yr son. We live on 23 acres on top of Sand Mountain, we have 7 quarter horses, 5 golden retrievers (we raise pups) a couple barn cats, three turkeys (just gott'em know nothing about them, just learning) and chickens!!!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? well...kinds new. My hubby and I had chickens years and years ago. We didn't know much about them, and for sure knew nothing about breeds other than, RIR were good egg layers. We didn't have a hen house and mostly they just ran around the yard. My daughter and I begged my hubby a long time to get chickens again and he finally agreed. This spring we bought 4 RIR, 2 white cochins, and (what we thought were brown leghorns are speckled sussex) 6 sussex all pullets. And that was the beginning!!!!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 39
(3) What breeds do you have?6 speckled sussex hens, 8 RIR and 1 roo, 3 cuckoo Marans and a roo, 2 white leghorn and a roo, 2 barred rock hens, 2 white cochin hens and 7 black sexlink pullets. Oh, and we also have 6 RIR young roos we *might* dress....not sure about that....its just a maybe lol
they may not be "hens" yet they are all from this spring..what I mean is, I don't know if I should be calling my girls hens or pullets

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? gardening/canning I LOVE to garden! veggies and flowers!!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. This is my 12th year to homeschool!!!
my daughter loves to show horses...she is a speed girl! loves barrels and pole bending. my son loves xbox...sometimes I think he should be a city boy! lol My hubby works in Chattanooga Tenn. drives home to the country an hour one way every day! he's a farmer at heart. Well...guess that's about it for our family. Wanna know anything else just ask.... I don't mind at all
