I have had chickens for 3 years now. A very nice lady gave me a pair of wellsummers and and Arcuana. I got a couple of columbain rocks and an incubator. I picked up a buff and australorp as well. Last year I sold all but 5 of my "mutt" hatchlings. I traded for a different roo (also a "mutt") and this year got some very intresting colors! I have a hard time telling the roos from the hens, so I currently have 40 chickens that I need to start thinning out! I have sold/given 60 or so as chicks to people who didn't mind a good mix :)
My coop started as a pallet coop, but after a couple of good Tennessee storms and a broken deck, the decision was kinda easy to create a better coop. It is still a work in progress. It looks kinda wonky because I live on a steep hill and nothing is quite level! The coop is 8x8. I am going with the deep litter method, but I made a crucial mistake in not securing the bottom of the coop to start. I lost 10 chicks before I figured out what was happening. It is now secure with chicken wire and new hay for the floor is on it's way.
My hope in joining this wonderful group is that I can get some help in creating a better environment for my mutts.

The first question I have -------- Is there anything I can do for my poor Hoppy? I'm not sure what happened to his leg, but I came out and it was backwards. She seems to be getting around fine and eating well, but....

Thank you all for reading my super long intro! I hope I can contribute and learn.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

Your chick has a slipped tendon. You can try posting in the Diseases and Injuries section, but unfortunately it is not really treatable and as she gets older it will become more and more difficult for her to get around. She would probably be better off being culled before then, sorry to say.
