Hello from North Western New Mexico (not part of Mexico 🤣).

Hi everyone,
My husband and I are new to raising birds, we currently have 4 roosters (we'll be eating 2-3 of them soon since we only wanted 1 or 2 and they all gang up on our biggest one), 2 grown but not yet laying ducks (as far as I can tell they've both stayed the same size for a week), and I believe 15 hens in a big coop outside. Inside we have 6 ducklings and 6 turkey poults who are about 3.5 weeks old, they'll be a month old on Tuesday. We also feed a couple stray dogs to keep mountain lions and bears off the property as well as 3 of our own dogs and 5 cats. My husband has never raised or been around livestock in a farm-style way, but my foster parents from a decade ago had chickens, rabbits, and I think other animals that they kept somewhere off their property. I wasn't around the farm animals a lot since I was a foster youth, but there was a time or two such as when my foster dad had me watch him butcher a rabbit. Anyway, I hope we can all learn from each other and thank you all in advance!View attachment 3642660

It's currently 77, but it was around 47 last night about midnight when we went to bed. Honestly, I'm glad we're not that low yet since we still need to replace the fire bricks in our wood stove, but I hope you're staying warm enough!
47 is cool enough, 77 isn't too awful bad compared to the summer heat. Great that you have a wood stove! We haven't fired ours up yet, probably in a few weeks though. Hopefully your stove will be ready at the first cold snap! Our stove is loaded and ready to spark up when needed! :D Balloon Fiesta coming up, are you going? šŸŽˆ

Hopefully, but my in-laws want my husband to build a fancy hearth with stone flooring for it, possibly soon. They own the property, but it'll eventually be ours. It's great yours is ready to go! :highfive: No, most likely I'll be home doing school work while my husband's out being a truck driver.

Sounds like a good area for your stove, and pretty! Ours just sits on vinyl flooring with slate tile on the wall behind it. :p We arent going either and will just watch Balloon Fiesta on TV. Much easier than dealing with the crowds.

I don't like crowds either!! Lol. The picture is my husband's reference picture for the hearth. The in-laws saw it and really liked it. Ours is currently sitting on a hearth from '96 over some '96 green carpeting with one of those back panels from Ace. tempImage8x7ooz.png
