Hello everyone, joined a few days ago and have been looking at all the great information on this forum. It is all great. My family has been raising chickens for about the last 10 years and I could not see my life without them. I have always been an animal lover but never thought I would love having chickens so much. Unfortunally this past summer we have a problem with some kind of preditor (not sure, but suspect either a weisel or racoon), so we are now down to just 5 birds. 4 hens and 1 rooster of various breeds. We suspect our rooster is coming to the end of his life, but that is the way life goes. He is about 5 and 1/2 years, not sure of his breed but we do feel that he is a meat breed. After the run in with the preditor we battened down the hatches of the coop and so far so good. Well I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello, give a little background, and thank everyone for all the great stuff I have seen so far on this forum. As soon as I get used to moving around I will be putting up picts and all that stuff. Have a great day!

Good luck with your birds......don't forget to check out the predator section, there's a lot of good info on protecting your flock!

Nothing to do with chickens, but our family home is off of Hershey Road and 99 by McKean.

I live down in Angier, NC, but family still lives in the family home.

Howdee do.

Out there, the predator could even be coyotes. My nephew has shot several out near Northeast where you live.

There's bears too, but they'd turn a henhouse to rubble to get to the chickens, I'm thinking.
