In the Brooder
Deep breath.
Baby chicks are ordered!!
And I found a local source for free pallets that I can use to modify our outbuilding. It's currently 10x18, and I was planning making it about 10x8 for the chickens with a half wall (the pallets), then keeping the remaining 10x10 for storage. I need to replace the south-facing windows (4 of 'em) with hardware cloth and some sort of covering for the bitter winter days. I need to get the building predator proof, and install a chicken door on the side. THEN, I have to pretty much redo the fencing for their run area (10x24), too.
I have about 3.5 months to get this all done, in addition to working nights full time, raising 2 kids (thank goodness for stay at home hubby), and being in school part time.
Let the fun begin.
