Just starting into this.... This will be my first flock ever.

My one-day-old chicks are arriving on the 9th of this month - 2 cochins, 2 aurcanas, 3 barred rocks, 3 rhode island reds - all pullets.

We have this coop arriving shortly http://www.mypetchicken.com/PicturePop.aspx?image=images/product_images/Popup/CC4.jpg and my husband and I are working on fencing now - this forum has been sooooo informative regarding fencing. We live out in the cornfields of Northern MD so we have many predators (including my own bird dog - German shorthair pointer. I think my choc. lab will be okay with them, but my GSP is nuts - they will never free range with the dogs loose).

Hello,

from South Carolina!

Glad to have you aboard! I've been up your way a few times, it is beautiful.

Welcome fellow Marylander. I too have found this site invaluable in preparing for my first chicks. They arrived yesterday and I'm still here reading and learning. There's a great bunch of people on this site. I also signed up with Cecil County Chickens in yahoo groups. Not much info there but I figure that I'll be able to keep up on local chicken happenings. Good luck with your new babies when they arrive.
