I don't have chickens yet, but my sons and I are getting some this spring. My boy are very excited about getting chickens. The problem is they can't decide what breed of chickens to get. I try to help them by suggesting a good dual purpose breed that will lay eggs for most of the year and that are ease to handle.they want good looking birds.anyone with so advice on this would be helpful. Thank you.

Choosing breeds can be tricky! There are so many to choose from and they all have different characteristics. Some are friendly, some lay very well, some are just beautiful and some lay coloured eggs... many of us end up buying chickens of different breeds! Have a look through our breeds section here:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/category/chicken-breeds

and this lovely breeds chart:

And also our Learning centre for some newbie tips and advice:

Enjoy your chicken adventures!
