What a wonderful forum! I have learned so much from browsing this site! Thank you to all who contribute. Let me introduce myself. I am a mom to 4 young and active boys ages 11 down to 3. I have a wonderful husband and a dog with......issues to say the least. The dog has issues, not my husband.

My husband and I have been talking about getting chickens for some months now. I have read a lot and I think we are ready to take the plunge and get ourselves 4 baby chicks. Every so often though, I start to get nervous and wonder how much work this is going to be. So my question to you all is simply that. How much work daily do 4 chickens take? How often to you need to clean the coop to keep the hens happy and the odor away? With 4 young boys I certainly don't want to get in over my head. Thanks for any advice you can give me!

I have 18 hens and 1 roo in an 8x12 coop. It takes me about 15 minutes a day to care for them. I scoop out the poop that is under the roost daily. That is where most of the poop is. As with anything, in the beginning you will probably take longer to do the work but after you get a routine down it will go by quickly.

Have fun in this new adventure!

from So Cal. I have three girls in a 6x12 run and am getting a dozen plus eggs each week. I rake and clean up daily- 15minutes or so. Good luck and you are going to love this new hobby!
