Hi everyone,
My husband and I have been avid readers of Backyard Chickens for a couple months and since we finally purchased some chicks and built a coop, we decided to join the community.

We are located in Northwest Georgia and are working towards a more sustainable future for our family. We currently have 10 chicks--4 Rhode Island Reds, 3 Wyandottes, and 3 Australorps. We are hoping for all hens, but we're fairly certain we have one or two roos in the mix.

I'm still a newb also...into my 2nd year. I had up to 30 hens 2 years ago, and now I'm down to 4 hens, and 1 exotic miniature rooster. Stray dogs got most of mine last year when I decided to let them free-range. I,m building a new coop right now, and hope to build my flock back up. Just wanted to let ya know that I've had as many as 8 different breeds, and the R.I. Reds seemed to be the meanest. I'm going with the N.H. Reds this year. I'm trying to get some rare breeds also. Have you ever heard of a frizzle? That's what my little rooster is, and he is die-hard. I've had to revive him twice, after dog attacks, and he has pulled through. The only chicks I've gotten so far this spring is white rock pullets, silver-laced wyandottes, and ameraucanas. They are chirping in my kitchen, as we speak...LOL I just placed an order for 20 more chicks...different breeds. I live in Murphy, NC...probably not far from you guys. I'd love to chat with ya about our chicks. The australorps are good girls also. 6 of the hicks I just ordered are straight run also, so I may have to find some homes for roosters....LOL Little Red (my frizzle rooster) is the only GUY I need around here...;} Would love to swap some pics with ya...good luck.
