(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had some chickens in Maryland. I got some eggs from Ebay, and an incubator and started my flock last year (2020). I ended up with about 80% Roosters.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I picked up more chicks at TSC this year and incubated some of my hens eggs. I think I'm over 30. Still a high number of Roosters.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Mostly Silkies and Bantams (four different). 1 Frizzle, 2 Showgirls. Oh, and 4 American hens (I hope) from TSC for $1 each this spring.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Having my own eggs, but it's slow with only 3 laying hens so far. the worst aspect? Too many Roosters competing for crowing. anyone nearby that would like a silkie or Bantam Rooster or two? Or eggs even, but they are all in the same fenced area so mixed.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Retirement, which means housework, yardwork, fixing up the place the way I like it. keeping busy.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Single, with cats. 2 Himalayan girls, 2 brother/sister (Calico Female, Turkish Van B/W male.) Retired

:welcome :frow I'm originally from the Traverse City, Mi area but have lived most of my life in Florida. We have a farm swap bimonthly. I hatch out a lot of chicks every year of which around half will be males. I grow them out and pick out the best as my future breeders and sell the rest at the swaps which helps to offset the price of the feed. Good luck with your flock and have fun...
