(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

My sister brought home chickens two days ago. None of us have any real prior experience with chickens. We just raised ducklings and goslings for the first time this year.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Just two at the moment.

(3) What breeds do you have?

I have no idea. When I asked my sister what they were, she said she didn't know, and the guy she got them from didn't know either. I'm hoping someone on here will be able to help me identify them.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I don't know about the chickens yet but we've been really enjoying the rest of our backyard poultry. The ducks and geese pack a lot of personality in their little bodies. I expect the chickens will be similar.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I blog and write fantasy novels.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Technically, I don't live on the farm with the animals. I'm just the computer-savvy family member who does all the research and figures out how we should do things. My mother and sister care for the birds day to day, and I go to the farm a few times a week. My sister primarily keeps horses, and that's where her expertise lies.

The Mayhem in my screen name is my big orange cat. The name quite suits him.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I've come across BYC numerous times when looking things up for my silly ducks. I decided to join after my sister dropped surprise chickens on everybody.

Welcome! You've come to the right place!
I'm in Southwest Ohio, and pretty new to chicken keeping myself. This group has been amazing, there are tons of pinned resources and you can keyword search the forums. I would say most of the time I find answers in older posts or replies, and if I can't find an answer right away it's because I'm doing something unconventional- and even then, there are probably multiple people with experience, so just make a post about it and you'll likely get some answers.

The "what gender" group is also impressively accurate, from what I've seen and personal experience.

Northeast, here! Thank you for the warm welcome. Hopefully, the kind folks here will be able to help me identify these mystery birds.
