Love love love this site. I thought I'd do some more chicken research rather than continuing trying in vain to sleep with an aching head, fever and chills. Blech. I'm not normally online in the middle of the night, but I thought I'd try to redeem the time, KWIM?
We're new to chickens. I had them as a girl but had forgotten a lot over the years. Got a dozen week old straight run chicks in the spring, and turns out they were all roos. No problem. We wanted to learn how to butcher as well.
We saved one roo that the kids got attached to.
Later picked up 3 newly-laying leghorns. Great layers! Then picked up 5 other hens, and I'm STILL waiting for those girls to lay.
Dh built a chicken tractor for them back when we thought we'd just keep a couple. But you know how it goes . . . once you get a couple you want MORE MORE MORE because you just love 'em! Now we range them during the day and lock them in at night. Building a permanent coop this week, hopefully.
Hmm, what else can I tell you? We're a Christian homeschooling family and we started raising rabbits this summer too. Hope to breed our first two does in a week or so.
Thanks,
Jill
