AHOY!

First off, excellent site full of some AMAZING information, my husband and I have spent many hours glued to the computer screen scouring page after page.

We have immersed ourselves in backyard-chicken keeping, last week we picked up our girlies, 4 barred rock, 4 golden comets and 4 rhode islanders. We aimed high, under the assumption that a few would die off. Well. They're all healthy as a horse, so we're going to have to make adjustments to our coop (were only planning on 8, max) So we shall see. We may end up relocating a few in the next month or so, a few friends have chickens and would be more then willing to take some of our ladies.

We are currently being black-balled by our holier then thou next-door neighbors, ("MY GOD THINK OF THE SMELL! MY GOD THINK OF THE MITES!! MY GOD THINK OF MY WINE PARTIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..............

) and Mrs. Neighbor is on city council.... I guess something was talked about regarding chickens in city limits at last night's meeting. I am getting full minutes on the happenings tomorrow or Friday so I can see what exactly was discussed. It's just frustrating that they're getting so bent out of shape over a few chickens, but hey, whatever.

Anyway, we LOVE our ladies, and I swear they grow by the MINUTE! My husband and I have never done chickens before and are absolutely amazed. It's exciting, and makes us smile.

So thats it for now. I will keep everyone posted on the Neighbor situation (they are the ONLY ones in the radius who have a problem, everyone else loves the idea) WHATEVER

Looking forward to many new friends!

Hahahaha yeah I know, but we're on less then half an acre of land so I think 12 is stretching it a bit. I grew up on the beach in Florida, moved to Ohio, and now wish we'd bought a house with 937542874 acres so I could have all sorts of critters!!! I find it terribly amusing

We'll see how it goes this year/winter, then see about getting more/different varieties. I want some fancy chickens to add to the fleet

And thank you for the well-wishes. I'll post the whole story thus far tomorrow, or when I get the minutes and can formulate a plan of action. In any sense, we are pretty sure if they nix the chicken in the city idea, they can't go retro active with it. We have our reciept showing the date of purchase, just in case.

Oh and did I mention the elderly man up the street who has a companion duck? Or the fact that they ran a 'feel-good' story about him in the local newspaper last year? So if I gotta get rid of my chickiedees, hes gotta get rid of his duck, right? And that would throw this town into arms, taking away an old mans friend like that, soooooo many people know this guy and have zero problem .............. they're just lashing out in defense right now and not truly listening to what they're saying, or the repercussions of such actions. So I'm confident they're just going to have to suck it up and deal with it. (Plus, its not like they're going to see/smell the chickens once we put up a 6 foot privacy fence along the whole property line, right?????

) Like I said, they are making a HUGE mountain out of a mole hill, or, chicken coop............. all for fear that our little ladies will look bad when their guests come over for garden parties (could you please pass the grey poupon?)

Anyway, Good Night!
