My name is dawna. Totally new to chickens. We had some when I was just a tot in Oklahoma, that was my one and only experience. I now have moved from WI to OH and have the land to raise chickens. I have six chicks, three golden comets and three black pullets.
Everyone keeps asking why I want chickens so I will share. I have a daughter and seeing how quickly girls are becoming women I want to keep her (and my two boys) away from all the hormones in store bought food. Since making this decision I have switched the family to almond milk (GMO free) and have begun to buy as much organic/hormone free as possible. However, the cost of organic eggs is taxing (as we loooove our eggs). It is a step by step process but I plan to have our family nearly self sufficient for home grown veggies/fruit and eggs by the end of summer. And if the weather is cooperative I will have plenty of veggies for winter as well.
Thanks for reading and imparting such useful information!

Nothing better than home grown eggs from your own backyard chickens! You know what is going into them, they are happy and healthy and the eggs taste much better!

Good luck with your new adventure and if you have any questions, that is what we are here for!!

Welcome!
I'm originally from Spfld, OH.. I can imagine the winters with chicks would be tough!

We are here in Greenfield OH, which is southeastern Ohio. This winter has been unseasonably cold (as it has everywhere) but compared to a normal Wisconsin winter it was a breeze, so I am thinking future winters will be pleasant in comparison to what I am accustomed to.
